The iPod; My Best Friend

I can not think of a piece of technology that has been more helpful to me than my iPod. Just about every single day I use my iPod for one thing or another. I'm one of those people who likes to exploit the playlist feature of the iPod. I have a playlist for studying, cleaning, working out, relaxing, and singing. Out of all of them, i've spent the most time tweaking my studying playlist. Different types of homework put me in different moods, so its hard to find a 5 song playlist that is "perfect" for all studying occasions. I've considered making a different playlist for each studying subject, but not found it to be necessary. So, for the perfect studying playlist...

1. On Call - Kings of Leon
This song is a faster tempo that helps to keep me focused. It is not distracting, but more musically pleasing.

2. Miracle - Foo Fighters
A quiet, softer, and slower song from a band that usually plays rock songs. Has relaxing traces of an 80s power ballad.

3. Crash Into Me - Dave Matthews
Another relaxing song that is easy to work to. Most Dave Matthews songs are good to study too, but on most days I prefer this one.

4. Snow - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Chili Peppers is an older band, and this is, in my opinion, one of their best songs. I chose this because its a moderate tempo, but nothing too heavy.

5. Careless Whisper - Seether
This is without a doubt the heaviest song on my studying playlist. I included it because it has some sweet sounding guitar, and I often take a break from studying to fully enjoy this song.

You will notice that most of these songs I chose because they are at a moderate tempo, very musical, and relaxing. They all seem to fade into the background, and it makes studying so much easier. Thanks to the iPod, whether your at home or at the library, you can always turn on this playlist and get some good studying done.

Assignment 2: iWrite

In 1976, Steve Jobs became a co-founder of Apple. 35 years later he is retiring and putting his enormous company into different hands. His departure does not just mean a promotion for Tim Cook, the new CEO, but a major shift in a company that has been a key player in technology innovation in the 21st century.

So, this brings us to your writing for the week:

How has technology affected your life?

Choose one of the following prompts and in 150 words or more, provide your answer.
  • Has technology affected you in a majorly positive way? What happened?
  • Has technology ever inconvenienced you or hurt you? Maybe technology got in your way, slowed you down or even literally hurt you? Have you seen technology have a negative impact on society?
  • How would your life have been different if you'd grown up 20 years earlier? How would you interact with others? Do you think your relationships then would differ from your present relationships? Which time period would you prefer and why?
  • How often do you use your ipod (or phone or whatnot)? What is your perfect playlist for ____ (fill in the blank - it could be your perfect playlist for a sunny day, for a road trip, for thanksgiving, etc.) Choose 5 songs, note the song and artist and why you chose this song.

The deadline for this blog is Sunday, September 4 at 11:59 p.m.
Sup. My name is Elizabeth Anne Combs. Here are some things you should know about me. :)

I have played volleyball since about fourth grade. I play for Henry Clay right now and we are pretty legit, not gonna lie. I totally love my team. When I'm not playing for Henry Clay I'm playing for some club so it takes up a lot of my time, but I love it. I enjoy watching sports but I'm not a huge fanatic or anything.

I like music a lot. I will listen to basically any kind of music. And I love going to concerts. I also play cello and I have since fourth grade. It's fun most of the time but I don't really practice much.

I enjoy baking if I have the time. But most of the time I'm too lazy to decorate it if I do make something and I'm just not that artistic. But this is a cake i made for my sister and it was one of my finer moments.

My academic goal for this year would be to make a 4.0 gpa. I have come really close every other yearbut fall a little short and end up making something like one B. I have no idea where I want to go to college or what I want to do. But I will figure it out eventually.

Over the summer i went on vacation to Edisto Island. It's this itty bitty island in South Carolina. There's not really much to do there but I love the beach so it was fun. While there me and my sister caught a baby shark, with our hands no big deal. But thats about as exciting as my summer got. The rest of it was spent playing volleyball.

I don't really have a favorite website but my most used one is by far www.facebook.com. Those are some basic facts about me. :)

First Blog

Hey mr logsdon and blogging community,

My name is Jacob Francis Linton, but I go by Jake. I can't remember when I started going by Jake so I must have been pretty young. My dad and grandfather also have Francis as a middle name.

I have a lot of personal goals for this year. Primarily, beating Alex Atwood consistently in Ping-Pong. We frequently play and recently my skill has been slacking. Hopefully, I'll be able to beat him everytime by the end of the year. I also hope to made team captain again for lacrosse and get a starting (or at least playing more ) position in hockey.
I hope to survive junior year as a goal. My classes are pretty hard and require a couple of hours of homework every night which is not fun.
I had several meaningful moments of summer vacation but the best moments are when I was wakeboarding. This has always been a passion of mine and I can only experience this in the summertime.

I also had a lot of fun this summer being boring and mundane. Such as sleeping in until 1 most days, staying in my room all day or spending hours on end watching www.youtube.com.

For a superpower I would be typically greedy. I'd want ever superpower. I'd be incredijake. Because Thor, The Green Lantern, Jedi, Superman, and Spiderman all had such successful remakes, I would be all of them.

Last but not least, I love checkers. But, many people do not love checkers. Thus, I had played a couple thousands games against the computer. Also, I am the fastest expert minesweeper player I've ever had the chance to meet.

You stay classy San Diego,
Jake Linton

I Will be Surprised If Anyone Reads This

My name is Ian Foster. Since most of you know me, i'll try and keep this short.

1.As far as academics, I consider myself an average student. I would probably do better if i didn't spend so much time asleep. I don't really know what I want to do, but I want to stay away from math and science.

2.I'm not really picky as far as music. My iPod covers everything from Boston to Eminem. However, I avoid the heavier metal, because it is more noise than music.

3.Sports have always been something I have loved. Lacrosse is hands down the best sport in the world. The range of athletic ability it requires to be good is what makes it so appealing. My favorite sport teams are the Phoenix Suns, Baltimore Ravens, Boston Cannons, and Boston Red Sox.

4. I watch a very limited range of TV shows. I spend a lot of time on ESPN and Comedy Central.I get all of my news from a combination of the Daily Show and the Colbert Report. Other than that, I also follow Deadliest Warrior on Spike. Blazing Saddles is the funniest movie ever. Also, Lion King is the greatest movie ever made.

5.This past summer was my best summer ever. It started out with me going to Trilogy lacrosse camp, which was better than last year due to the lack of Ryan Boyle. In July, I went to Washington, DC for a conference on National Security and Intelligence. It was over 100 degrees all week, with a heat index of 104. There was no temperature control at all in the dorms. We started working at 6 am, and didn't stop until 11 pm. It was hands-down, the best experience of my life. I hung out with the most fun and interesting people I have ever met. There were people from all across the country. Also, I ate nothing but McDonald's and Subway for a week because the food at American University was awful.

6.If I could choose any superpower, it would definitely be the power to stop time. This would not only give you time to plan your nezt move, but it would also be valuable in a day-to-day setting. For instance, you wouldn't have to do homework until a second before it was due. Also, it would be really east to mess with people.

7. My favorite website is http://www.cracked.com/. It provides a great mix of humorous and thought-provoking articles.

Toohey, James Toohey.

My name is James Robert Toohey. My first name comes from my grandfather, James Toohey, who was named after his father, James Toohey, and raised a son (my father) who was named, get ready for it: James Toohey. My middle name derives from an Uncle Bob; Thank the lord that there is no string of Bobs in my family. I am of the son of Kim and Mike (who decided to go by his middle name later in life to spare confusion) Toohey. My mother is of Scandinavian heritage, and my father is purely Irish (Toohey is Irish for alcoholic). I like to think of myself as a sort of Irish Viking hybrid. Pictured to the left is my cousin, Leif Ericson, who my mother swears I am related to.

I've been into sports since I was but a wee lad, playing every sport I've come into contact to. Freshman year I picked up lacrosse, and have stuck to it since. I like watching professional football as well. My favorite team is the Cincinnati Bengals, and I despise the cities of Cleveland and Pittsburgh. I also love music. Besides country music, I'll listen to about anything. My favorite rap groups are Chiddy Bang and the Wu Tang Clan. My favorite band is The Avett Brothers. If you haven't heard them, you should probably go to this website and listen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t43VgJ4U9_Q
My goals for this school year are to get a 4.0 both semesters and get at least a 33 on my ACT. I screwed up on my last ACT and got a 30, so I'm hoping that if everything goes right I can knock that up a few points higher. As far as long term education goals go, I'd like to get a scholarship from any of the out of state schools I like, such as Ole Miss, UNC, or Ohio State.

If I could have one super power, it would be to have Morgan Freeman's voice. I feel like everything I said would have a strong emotional impact, far greater than super strength. Also, my favorite movie is The Shawshank Redemption. I know that that belongs in the bit where I talk about my interests, but it also has some relevance here so I thought it wouldn't be a big deal.

That about sums up enough information about me to get full credit on a blog assignment. If you want to know more about me, just ask me in class. But really though, don't talk to me.

Well hello :)

So, who am I? Honestly, that's what I've been trying to figure out for quite some time. After my life completely changed this summer, I was forced to figure out what I wanted, who I am, just everything I wasn't focusing on before.

I have spent so much time trying to figure that out, yet I still haven't figured out very much. But I can talk about the basic aspects of my life. My full name is Samantha Faye Dearing, which most of you should already know. I live with my grandparents, my mom, and my little sister. She's 7 years younger than me, and even though we have a huge gap in age, our personalities are even more different. I really enjoy music, and that used to be something I dedicated most of my time to. I'm usually listening to music (mostly rock, but I do listen to a few other genres- it just depends on my mood), and that's why I'm going to add http://www.pandora.com/ .

As for school, up until this year, I didn't do much, and that's becoming a problem. I guess I felt almost unmotivated to do something that went beyond the expectations of everyone else. This year, I'm doing Y-club, Beta Club, Spanish Club, and the list goes on. By the end of the year, though, I would like to be able to say that I really enjoyed everything I did, instead of wishing that I was doing so much more with my time.

Other than that, I do fairly normal stuff. I love horror movies. There aren't very many I haven't seen. When I'm not busy, I watch NCIS or write, although I haven't done that in a while.

And... that's me, well, as much as I'm sure of.

Varun G. Ramakrishnan

Hey, I'm Varun G. Ramakrishnan. People usually call me Rama or Baroon depending on how well they know me. For those of you who don't know, my middle name is Gawd (pronounced God), the Tamil term for God.

1.) In regards to Academics, I would like to say that I am a strong student. This obviously wasn't the case for me last year, where my performance was average to say the least. However, I have taken it upon myself to change my poor study habits and plan on having all A's this year. When I first came to Henry Clay, my favorite subjects were English and Social studies, but as the years progressed, that affinity shifted to Math and Science. I'm not exactly sure what my plans for the future are, but I am interested in pursuing in a degree in either business or medicine.

2.) Music is something that I consider to be an extremely important part of my life. I have been playing the violin since I was four years old, but my interest in the instrument has somewhat disappeared. Currently, my favorite genre of music is rap. I always experience a feeling of empowerment when meaningful and clever poetry is combined with a strong beat. I usually listen to about four to five hours of a music per day (not an exaggeration, I'm just naturally good with numbers). My favorite musicians include Macklemore, OCD: Moosh and Twist, and Kanye West.

3.) As of now, I do not play any sports, however, I watch basketball religiously. Basketball was the one sport that I always found easy to understand, and once my knowledge of it grew, I became addicted. Infact, there was a small period of time in my life when I desperately wanted to become an NBA Coach, but unfortunately that dream died hard (I have Indian parents). My favorite teams include the New York Knicks, the Boston Celtics, and the Phoenix Suns. For the past few years, I have been a large supporter of Amar'e Stoudemire, the power forward for the Knickerbockers. You could not provide me with a valid reason not to like a man who has an apostrophe in his name. Seriously, you couldn't. I bet my bottom dollar.

4.) I usually don't watch alot of Television, but when I do, it is usually for a long period of time on Hulu. Typically, I prefer shows that blend comedy and drama together (e.g. Wilfred or or It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia). However, I do not share this sentiment in regards to movies. I like movies that fit one genre and not deviate from that genre whatsoever. I consider Borat to be one of the greatest films ever created, and it continues to be my favorite movie to this day.

My favorite website is www.goodmusicallday.com, it is my primary source for finding new musicians and songs.

Oh hi.

Hi, I'm Aqeel. No, not aqueel...bet you can't guess how many times that mistake has been made. Anyway, most of you probably know me already but if you don't, here's the basic rundown.

1. Academically, I'd like to consider myself a straight-A student even though last semester was my first time. I'm not really sure where I'll end up or what I'll be doing, so I try to keep my options open. I'd like to be a doctor, but there are so many other things I enjoy doing.

2. I love music, even though I probably have next to no musical talent. I'll listen to anything, but rap is probably my favorite. It's just so much more exciting than regular poetry. One thing I love is when rap (or any music, really) has a good meaning and not just random lyrics that sound nice. Needless to say, I'm not a fan of Lil Wayne.

3. I don't play any sports, but I'm a big sports fan. I watch basketball and football mostly. My favorite teams are Kentucky, the Boston Celtics and the New England Patriots. I really like Boston as a city so I'll support any Boston teams really.

4. I love watching TV and movies. One flaw I have is that everything I watch I end up liking in some way. It's not often that I watch something and think 'Wow, that sucked.' I guess I'm just a bit of an optimist. My favorite TV show is probably How I Met Your Mother. And I've seen too many good movies to be able to even pick out a few favorites.

5. Over the summer I went to Sri Lanka, where my parents are from. It was my first time going ther
e in a few years, so the 100+ degree weather, horrid humidity, bug bites and cold water showers took some getting used to. Despite its less-than-perfect qualities, it's actually a beautiful place. The walks on the beaches seemed like they could bring anyone to complete peace, and the views from the tops of mountains were breathtaking (driving up and down the mountains a few inches from the edge were the most stressful hours of my life, though).

Well that's just about it. Out of lack of confidence in the appropriateness of some other sites and not knowing where that line is drawn, I'll say my favorite site is http://www.facebook.com/ .

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeei!

People like to shout my name a lot. It's just natural for them, and when I shout their name back, they just look at me weirdly and chuckle (but not quietly to themselves). My name is Chinese, but I am also Vietnamese and can speak a little of that but no Chinese.

My ambitions for high school are simple: learn stuff, get an A in the class, and have fun along the way. It all builds up toward that place we call college. My parents are actually very relaxed about school and homework in general, as in they don't check my grades, they don't help me with homework, and they don't ask me what I learned on any particular day. This freedom I enjoy is highly dependent on the results I produce, a.k.a. my report card. I think it's a fair agreement.

I like to consider myself a sportsy guy. I don't play for any official school teams, but I like basketball and ultimate frisbee. Over the summer I played in a frisbee summer league with one of the greatest ultimate players in Kentucky for about six weeks. Being on the same team as him would have been the highlight of my summer had it not been for a three week vacation to Florida. Everyone in my family was reunited in the same house. It may have been cramped, but the 21 of us never complained.

And that pretty much sums me up. Oh, the most horribly cliche website deserves a mention here just because it is used by so many people (including myself). www.google.com

My First Blog!

Hello. My name is Justin T. Pemberton. If you want to know what the T stands for, you'll have to ask. Most of you know enough about me, so i'll just cover the main points.

School is not something I hate. It is actually best described by what I do and don't dislike about it. Do I dislike learning? No. Why would somebody not like becoming smarter. Do I dislike getting up at 6:00am every morning? Yes. Getting up is the hardest thing in the world to do. Do I dislike being stressed? Yes. It makes my tummy hurt. Do I dislike people at school? No. People are awesome. There we go. Two dislikes, and two non-dislikes. As far as academic goals go, I'd like a 4.0gpa and a 36 on the act. Sounds a little out of reach, but its worth trying for sure. I don't really know what I want to do for a career, or where I want to go to school, but i'm sure it will come to me soon.

I love music. It is one of the most powerful things in the universe, and without it, life would be madness. I'm not partial to one type of music. If its well made, anything from rock to country to rap is fair game. I play guitar and piano, and love it. If you ever want to jam hit me up.
I also love sports. I like to play just about any sport; soccer, lacrosse, kickball, water polo, etc. I like watching sports too. Favorite teams are the patriots, the reds, UK, and Henry Clay.
If I could have one superpower, it would be the ability to read peoples mind. People can be so shady and indirect sometimes, and this way I can know what people are really thinking.
My favorite part about the summer was taking a mission trip to Joplin, Missouri to help re-build from the tornado devastation. There was a lot of damage, and still is a lot to be done, so I encourage you to take a trip down there sometime and help out.
My favorite website is http://www.youtube.com/ It's a pretty cool website, check it out sometime.

Thanks for reading!

Hello :)

Even though I'm pretty sure that most of you know my name already, I am Hannah Morgan Evans. If you know these next five things, then you know basically everything about me.

- My life revolves around singing. I am willing to listen to all types of music but I prefer older music or songs frommusicals. Les Miz is my favorite musical and my current musical obsession is Pixie Lott. She is from England and she is amazing. End of story.
- I will almost never say no to going to the movies. The only reason I would say no is if you ask me to see a chick flick, because I usually hate those. I love the overall feel of the movie theatres and I probably spend too much time there.
- The greatest joy in my life is baking for people. I would spend every day of the rest of my life baking if I could because it makes me so happy.
- I am in love with taking pictures and cool cameras. When I get bored I find interesting things in my house and take pictures of them. I have owned many Canons over the years and I personally believe that they are the best, but I also like to use polaroids.
- I smile a lot. And sometimes I find things so funny that I laugh until I cry, and people look at me like I'm crazy. But, hey, I'd rather be crying from happiness than from sadness.

My favorite website is www.freepeople.com :)

An Introduction

Hi my name is Cooper Gregory Van Tatenhove. I was named after my mom's maiden name. My ancestors were dutch which is why I have the last name that I do. All

my life I have loved and played sports which I still do today as a member of the soccer team. Many aspects and interests in my life have changed throughout the years even where I lived (I moved

to Kentucky when I was 9), but as those things have changed my love for sports has stayed with me. I have in specific played soccer since I was 8. Soccer is a sport that I love because it is not a sport where you can depend on pure athleti

cism, you must a

lways be thinking about the mental part of soccer and what is coming next. I Also love to watch sports, I have grown up a Kentucky fan all my life, but in addition to Kentucky I also am a fan of the Virginia Tech Hokies because I was born close to their campus. Another love of mine is music. I like all types of music with the exception of country. Music is something that has helped me get through hard times or just entertained me.

One of my favorite bands is Switchfoot. Switchfoot is a rock group that has a very guitar heavy sound. One of the reasons why I am such a big fan of Switchfoot is because of the fact that their songs are not about meaningless cliche topics, but rather are about things that they truly find meaningful and they are things that I personally can very easily relate to. As far as school goes my two favorite subjects are science and English because those are the two that give me the most freedom and independence. In science the many labs are often individual or in small group which I like because often everyone can have results or finding that are specific to them. As for English, writing is something that I have always enjoyed because it was one the few subjects in school where you are encouraged to have your own thoughts and ideas and to defend them.

My favorite website is www.kentuckysportsradio.com this is a website that focuses heavily on University of Kentucky sports in a very unique way. This is my favorite website because I almost always agree with the things that they post and talk about.

How to Tie a Tie

Hellooooooooo. My name is Matthew. I am a junior. I have brown hair and brown eyes (except on full moons when they turn red because I'm a vampire but that information is strictly confidential). I like to talk, a lot. I have two kids and their names are not real becaus ethey don't exist.
My academic goal this year is to get a 4.0, on my ACT of course. Just kidding but it would be really cool to get a 4.0 and feel like Barrett once and a while. I'd like to improve my study skills so I can get a 5 on the AP test for my favorite class... English with Mr. Logsdon (although its not really my favorite class but don't tell him. Just kidding, it's a great class, hi Mr. Logsdon!)
The most meaningful moment of my summer was when I watched Old School starring Will Ferrell. It taught me to never give up even when the oods are stacked against you, and that making a fraternity can save your house. This could be useful in the future.
If I could choose a superpower it would be to change people's minds. For example, if I had that power, students wouldn't have to make an entry to a class blog every week (once again I'm kidding Mr. Logsdon, please don't get upset with me. I'm having a joy in your class and outside of it with this WONDERFUL class blog). I could also have like 10 wives at once because I changed my religious god's mind to now practice polygamy. This way I could get like ten sandwiches at the speed of one.
And so on and so forth. I'm not really sure what this paragraph was supposed to be because it wasn't very detailed. So right now I'm typing my blog in case you were wondering. So i think I'm done besides my hyperlink to my favorite website which would be http://www.facebook.com/ because I'm original... Deuces.

Why hello there!

1. My name is Lauren Michele Duffy. I hate my middle name, and a lot of people call me by my last name. I also have received forty or so nicknames over the years. The most creative/my favorite include: "Double Duff Oreo," "the Duffinator," "Ducky," and "Duff the Magic Dragon."

2. I play soccer and have played just about every other
sport at some point. I'm hoping to play soccer in college some day because I can't imagine my life without it and I just enjoy it.

3. Not only do I play sports, but I love watching them too. I usually go to as many football games as I can during the fall because I think it's the most exciting sport to watch. Fall is my favorite season because my birthday is often the first day of fall, and because of the high school sports played in the fall.

4. I LOVE old movies. Carey Grant, Katharine Hepburn,
Audrey Hepburn, Bing Crosby, and Fred Astaire are my favorite actors (and actresses) of all time. Some of my favorites are: His Girl Friday, White Christmas, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Bringing Up Baby, Holiday Inn, and a lot more. I have always wished I could live in the time period that all of these movies were made, minus
a lot of the smoking they did.

5. I have a sister who is 6 years older than me and we are complete opposites. She is a short, pale, very dark and curly haired super skinny person. And she was in the SCAPA program at Lafayette for art. I,personally, have zero artistic ability although I really enjoy taking pictures. I take pictures of random things just to entertain myself. This is why my absolute favorite website is: http://www.flickr.com/explore/ The pictures that people post on here are often amazing and I sometimes post too.

6. I LOVE JACK JOHNSON. I'm slightly obsessed with him. Not in the creepy bieber-fever-esque way, but I really respect him for what he tries to do for the environment, charities, music, and the world in general. My favorite songs by him are: rodeo clowns, cookie jar, and... too many to list. I have four of his CDs in my car and I'm going to buy another one soon. And in the near future I hope to go to one of his concerts for the second time.

Okay, I think I've pretty much exhausted most of my semi-interesting list of favorites. I was going to move on to talk about my summer, but it was pretty dull. I went to camp for one week the week after school ended, and I was a counselor at that camp for another week a few weeks later. Other than that I went to two funerals, saw a grand total of 5 friends (not including camp) the entire summer. Of course, I also had lots of soccer this summer. Even before I had soccer, I was working
out almost every day to prepare for it. Well, now I've bored myself. SO.
That is all.

Yes, it's Kelsey

What to say to a class I've mostly known since I was 12... Well, I like to do EVERYTHING (literally, well - as literally as possible). So, I shall break down my life for you.

1.Favorites
Food: Chocolate Covered Strawberries
Drink: Water, V8 V-Fusion Light, Ale-8 (I'm a Winchester girl, what can I say?)
Color: Pink
Animal: Giraffes, Turtles
Music Genre: Broadway, Country, Pop
Radio Station: Your 106.3
Car: Dark Grey Prius, Navy Bug, Red Mini Cooper (doesn't mean I'll ever get one. ever. ):)
Actress: Jennifer Aniston/ Sandra Bullock/ Reece Witherspoon
Author: Jodi Picoult, Nicholas Sparks, Sarah Dessen
Shoes: Rainbows
Store: Aerie

2. I run cross country. I got a varsity letter last year, and I pretty much love it (most of the time). The girls are an awesome support system, and it is a great way to stay fit. During the spring off-season, I have volunteered with "Girls on the Run" at SCAPA. This is a self-esteem and running program put together that 3rd-5th graders around the county participate in. I would recommend running to anyone wanting to get whipped into shape pretty quickly.

3. Musical theatre is my love. While I am not planning on doing it as a career, I love the whole experience, enough to possible persue a minor in the area (in college). Most recently, I have worked with Paragon Music Theatre (Gypsy and The Sound of Music) and Lexington Children's Theatre (Anne Frank and Me). I also love teaching kids about theatre and music, and have done that through counseling at UK Opera's Broadway Bound and apprenticing at LCT's Summer Theatre School this summer. I also participate in LCT's high school acting class that meets once a week, Company B.

4. When I get older, I want to be a Speech Language Pathologist and work with young kids. This summer, I attended a week-long camp at Augustana College, in IL, where I was exposed to all parts of the field, from speech impediments to stroke patients and kids with Autism. I don't really have a college picked out, but so far Valdosta State University, in GA, is at the top of my list because of their SLP program. I am currently trying to teach myself American Sign Language, to help with my communication in this career.

5. I love crafty and DIY stuff, along with baking. My DIY things I've created range from sparkly flats and hairpieces to a personalized baking drawer and scrapbooked notebooks. I especially like baking cookies and cupcakes. The Winburn people also know that I am very picky about projects looking fabulous; my eighth grade social studies teacher coined the word "kelsification" to describe my style in which I decorated them. I get a lot of my inspiration from www.pinterest.com, which is my all-time favorite website. It's a mixture betweeen Facebook and StumbleUpon, which are my other two. Pinterest just lets me look at a lot of DIY stuff from home decor and recipes to clothing and photography.

6. While I don't watch very much TV, my favorite go-to channels are probably TLC, HGTV, and Oxygen (haha, I know - totally dorky). I love Glee, of course, along with ABC Family's Switched at Birth. I also like the cake decorating shows on the Food Network, especially the Food Network Challenges.

7. I try to be very involved in clubs and other organizations both in- and outside of school. I am the Chair of the YMCA of Central KY Youth Advisory Council. I also serve as Henry Clay's Y Club Treasurer and my homeroom's representative for Student Council. Along with these, I am a member of our Beta Club and Psych Club. I attend First United Methodist Church at Andover where I am also very active in youth group, youth choir, teaching the preschool choir, and volunteering in the nursery and children's church.

I feel like I've written a lot, and maybe you knew all that; maybe you didn't. I look forward to having a fabulous year of English with all of you!

Kelsey (:

Hey it's me!

My name is Victoria Lynn Salsman, as you may know. I feel like most of you already know a lot about me, but here is a quick overview: I dance at Diana Evans School of Dance. I am a captain of Henry Clay Dance Team. I've am a part of Y-Club and have gone to KYA every year since 6th grade. I am in youth group at Maxwell Street Presbyterian Church. I love the Disney princesses, especially Belle. I have been starting to learn a little bit of sign language. I love reading Sarah Dessen, watching Glee and So You Think You Can Dance, and listening to country and pop music. One of my favorite websites, on which I end up spending way more time than I probably should, is http://www.stumbleupon.com/home/.

Alright, now that all that stuff is out of the way I can talk about my super fantastic summer! So basically this is how it went down... dance, dance, dance, the best experience of my life, more dance, then the beach. My summer started out with immense amounts of dance rehearsals as soon as school got out and then getting to spend 16 hour days at the Opera House preparing for our annual recital, "Once Upon a Time..." After this, I had a couple weeks of random rehearsals to get ready for nationals and hanging out with some of my awesome friends.

Now here comes the best experience ever part... The next week I spent doing mission work in the beautiful country of Guatemala! I will seriously never be the same. Over the week we built 3 houses, worked in a orphanage, hiked a volcano, and met so many wonderful individuals. The people were so inspiring. We had to haul hundreds of cinderblocks and sandbags down to the site because there was no road to the place we were working. Even the children started to help by carrying cinderblocks down on their heads! There was a bit of a language barrier since most of us didn't speak Spanish and not all of the Guatemalans did either. Spanish was the second language for them, as well as us, so verbal communincation was quite difficult at times. It was amazing how patient they were with us and how well we all worked together, even though we couldn't talk much. Near the end of the week we went to a dedication for one of the houses and the prayer was translated in three different languages! It was awesome to see how we all came together to do such a fantastic thing for these families. It was such an eye opening experience.

That was the bulk of the excitement for my summer. The next week I went to dance nationals in Myrtle Beach and then to Edisto Island where I got to relax for a week... I was exhausted! It felt like as soon as I got back it was time for school to start again, which is why I am writing this post!

Uhhhh... Hi.

So as many but not all of you know, Im Spencer. formerly known as Spazatron, but thats a story thats a story for another time. ive kinda become a lot quieter since middle school, but if i wanta speak out, i will. im not sure exactly what i find funny, but i laugh a lot, or i did, or still do, idk.
this year i want to have a grade point average that is not in the C range. all A's and B's would be nice for once.
Probably the best thing about summer was going to New York City. but not fur vacation, i was on a missions trip. trust me: you see the world differently when you wake up at four A.M. everyday in the big apple and work for ten hours or more. its a serious life changer, and it makes you appreciate waking up at six for school :P
whats next...oh yeah, superpower. ok, so everybody seems to think that flying would be cool. well yur dumb, cuz you could easily be mistaken for a bird and shot. which would suck. strength would be pretty sweet, but its not really special (those who have seen worlds strongest man, and they pull like giant airplanes and stuff.) id go for teleporting, becuz then you can instantly show up in front of a group of evil ninjas and theyd be like "whaaa...?" that would be awesome.
oh yeah, heres a picture of me up top. i like lego.
and i like this website:http://www.hulu.com/
its legit cuz now i dont have to worry about missing Dora the Explorer at 9 in the morning. dont judge.

i love you

as the title states, i love you. actually, i probably dont, but whatever.
at the moment, im a little sick, uncaffeinated, and listening to the sub bass on black mags by the cool kids.
cuz, lifes like that sometimes. you have to get caught up in the moment to have any fun at all. but in general, as an introduction to people i know, im either really chill or really amped up without a middle ground. i listen to music constantly, and recently iv been leaning away from other genres in favor of rap. from southern crunk to tupac to 2011s freshman class of artists on the rise. my current playlist has songs from watch the throne, machine gun kelly, coolio, dj khalid, andbig sean.
and that's really me, life's a party.

An Experiment in Introduction

Posting an introduction for this class presents a rare opportunity because, with the exception of Ms. Carpenter, I'm quite familiar with each of you.  What should a person say to a group of people who you've know for at least two years?  I suppose the humanizing quirks are the best place to start...

1. I have a cup of warm milk every night, well I have for the past few weeks.  I feel like a crazy little kid, but I anticipate it all day long.  Lately, I've been trying soy milk and almond milk -- and I've liked it!

2. I'm an Internet junkie.  Which is a huge problem.  I go on the Internet with something productive in mind before spending upwards of an hour or two accomplishing nothing.  Straight-up nothing.

3. I have the memory of a goldfish.  Seriously.  For instance, I had to call someone back this weekend, and I forgot about it for a day, so I wrote it on a post-it and stuck it on my door.  Then I forgot the post-it was there.  I still haven't called her back...Perhaps I'll do that now.

4. I'm a terrible artist, but I adore the arts - especially visual arts.  As in I-want-to-double-major-in-art-history kind of love it.  So I'm trying to learn to paint, but I know NOTHING about creating realistic-looking pieces.  So don't ask to see anything I've made.  Because it is straight-up shameful.  And I'm not just saying that; it's embarrassingly bad.

5. I love love love funky questions.  So I Googled "Fun Get to Know You Questions" and found two interesting ones.
  • If you could have a super power what would it be?  Trite, I know, but I'm not sure I've ever really thought about it.  I yearn for a Time Turner because there are all of these great hobbies that I'd love to do all of the time.  And a do plan on doing them, but in extreme irony, I think I have to wait until adulthood to have enough time for any extensive hobby.
  • Where's Waldo?  This is a seriously legit question.  Because there is NO elaboration on the website.  A complete exploration of the mind's process.  I think I always imagine Waldo somewhere exciting.  Right now, my Waldo is on this mountain that my family and I climbed on in Alaska this summer (see right).  We didn't summit, but it was some legit hiking.  Hiking is one of those all-the-time hobbies I'd like to adopt as an adult.
Writing to an audience that knows me was fun, but now homework calls.  I pray Ms. Carpenter doesn't find me completely insane.  There are normal aspects of my personality as well, or professedly so.

To close, I'll put in a shameless plug.  My favorite website is: http://theirheadsintheclouds.blogspot.com/, which is my currently inactive blog for a mini-bucket list of activities that I wanted to do this summer.  I didn't finish very many of them, but I'd like to keep it going and see what the blog morphs into.  Check 'er out.

So it's my turn now

Howdy,
I’m Matthew Logsdon.  I grew up with Matt but when I moved to Lexington and I’d introduce myself I apparently had a speech disorder ‘cause people couldn’t get it right:
Me: Hey
Other Person: Hey
M: I’m Matt.
O: Mac?
M: No, Matt
O: Oh Max
M: No, Matt
O: ??
M: Matthew
O: Oh, I get it Matt
M: No, Matthew’s fine
So I now go by Matthew but a few of my very best friends will sometimes call me Mattie or Malibu (that’s a whole nother not so interesting story).  To you folk I’ll probably be Mr. Logsdon – perhaps even for the rest of your life.  I recently went into Starbucks and a former student was my barista and she’s like 25 calling me Mr. Logsdon.  Oh well.

I have a few peak-my-geek-meter activities and right now it’s Game of Thrones.  I watched the HBO series and was blown away and am now reading the books (when I just can’t take reading essays any longer); but I’m also a film and technology fanatic – it’s really quite sad actually – but that’s why last summer I turned my basement into a home theatre with a 100-inch-screen-stadium-seating-7.1-surround-sound-awesomeness.  The added benefit is that my PS3 games are quite nice when the characters are nearly life size – oh yeah!

All the fun and games aside, I hope to provide (ok, yea, here’s the “teacher” moment) for you an academic space that allows you the freedom to experiment with your writing/thinking as you explore alternatives to the standard structures you’ve come to already master.  Then with these skills absolutely shred the AP test.  Annihilate it.  Make it your little potty-trained puppy dog.  This is 250 words – so 150 ain’t so bad.  Oh here's my fav website www.aintitcoolnews.com.
