Death

Unlike my brave friend Jake Linton, I am actually quite scared of death. The idea of death has always managed to bother me greatly. Just the idea of leaving everything behind is so distasteful. You spend your entire life accomplishing various thing to eventually be trapped in a casket six feet below the ground. I understand death as being a necessary part of life. Honestly, what scares me more than death itself is the way's in which we die. The methods to our demise. It is unusual in modern society to die painlessly and entirely of natural causes. Either you die at the hand of a bullet or a disease. Dying peacefully is virtually unheard of in a society where not having cancer is considered an anomaly. You must suffer in order to see the end, and that is greatly unsettling to me. However, it has been a personal goal of mine to overcome this fear. As my friend Ian Foster has told me on numerous occasions, "In order to get what you desire, you must suffer and struggle." And while at this point in time I don't necessarily "desire" death, I'm sure when I'm old and have experienced all that life has to offer, I will appreciate the idea of death.
