I am a pretty spastic music lover, with favorites coming from country to Broadway to pop to alternative and beyond. I have acquired a quite unique taste that is a modge podge of all of the above genres – not to mention new folk, oldies, French pop, and other genres I often have added into the mix.
I do not like being home alone with an empty house, so I will pump up the tunes to give me some background noise and put me in a dancy-fun mood. So, without further or due, my perfect home alone playlist…
Chicken Fried - Zac Brown Band I love the laid back mood of this song. It’s something that you like to tap your foot to, but that doesn’t distract from what you are doing. The lyrics are simple, but that is the beauty in it. Sometimes when I am caught up in the rush of life, I forget to think about the little things and this song reminds me of how feel-good those things really are.
Forget You (Glee Cast Version) – Glee Cast featuring Gwyneth Paltrow This song is one of those that you just cannot turn off. It’s very catchy, and just makes you feel good. I don’t care as much for the meaning behind this song, but I love the attitude – and who can resist chiming on the “whoo-hoo-hoo’s?”
Hey, Soul Sister – Train I feel like someday this song is going to be a “classic.” I love its easy-going flow and sweet lyrics. What is better than an uplifting little ditty with a catchy chorus? There are some days when this song comes on my iPod, and I just smile – because I can’t help it.
King of Anything – Sara Bareilles The way Sara Bareilles is able to turn a full-out rant into a fun poppy jingle amazes me. She gracefully and eloquently arranges her lyrics so that they don’t sound angry – quite the contrary, actually. I love the way the music feels when you listen to it, and how it forces you to bob a little.
The Lazy Song – Bruno Mars The simple chords and pop-culture-alluding off rhymes of this song are just fun. The message is clear – that sometimes we just don’t feel like doing anything but chilling and having fun – and I can definitely relate 99.99% of the time. I will admit that the music video is absolutely the most ridiculous thing ever, but that is kind of the point – and I love it (the point… not the video).
So I have basically shown you my top five most listened to songs of the moment, and tried to articulate the reason why I love them so much. As you can see, my perfect staying home alone requires a simple message, fun melody, and an easy-going vibe. (:
