I use my iPod every single day, especially before soccer games and as I'm going to sleep. If I could, I would have a soundtrack for every moment in my life. The five best songs to go to sleep to are:
1. Adrift
2. Home
3. Only the Ocean
4. Angel
5. All At Once
These are all Jack Johnson songs, and like I said in my last blog post, I am slightly obsessed with him in a totally non creepy way. Anyways, all of these songs are pretty slow and calm. The first one just sounds like a dream because the lyrics sound like a bunch of different thoughts put together and the music is, for lack of a better word, dreamy.
Home is an especially good song when trying to fall asleep when you’re not in your own home. It’s happy and the lyrics sound whispered. It’s also comforting. When I was a camp counselor this summer, I used this playlist (with a few more songs) to help my cabin fall asleep. Home was the first song and a lot of the girls fell asleep within the first minute.
In Only the Ocean, the music and the way he sings gives the feeling of ocean waves coming in and going back out. It makes me really tired. Angel is about Jack’s wife. It’s a sweet song, and the lyrics are whispery just like Home.
All At Once is one of my favorite songs of all time. Whenever I have a bad day I listen to this song. The first few lines are “All at once, the world can overwhelm me. There’s almost nothing that you can tell me that could ease my mind.” The music and his voice are very soothing and it just makes me feel better for some reason.
