First of all, I found it interesting that this assignment was made due of 9/11.The debate of good v evil has been raging since the beginning of man. The main point is that good vs evil is a matter of personal perspective. In order to use a Star Wars example, which also has meaning today, watchthis video. http://www.collegehumor.com/video/5601770/stormtroopers-911
This takes the traditionally "evil" side of the empire in Star Wars, and puts them in the position of the American people. It show how, in the eyes of the Empire, the Jedi were no more than a terrorist group lead by one of the last descendents of an obscure religious sect. This is not very different from the way that certain people in America unfortunately view the Islamic world. There is, however, a grey area. This is where we find the anti-hero, which is the most interesting character in literature. Whether they do good things for bad reasons, or bad things for good reasons, They are not pure evil or pure good. While everyone would like to believe that evil could be stamped out once and for all, the best we can do and try and contain it. While we ,ay cut off the head of the snake, the body still lives. We kill Usama Bin Laden, and weaken Al-Qaida, but the organization and his evil live on. However, to use a quote from someone I spoke to at the CIA this summer, "The terrorists can run, but they'll only die tired"
