If you haven't clicked the link yet, do it. I saw these fancy fans in Sears at the mall for the first time a few months ago, and I didn't believe it. Apparently, blade-less fans are possible because somewhere in the base of the fan exists another fan that blows air through the hoop, and then out through little slivers in the hoop. This confuses me. First of all, if there's a fan inside of another fan that is producing enough cool air to circulate through the larger one, than why not just sell the smaller fan? And if that smaller fan, or mechanism, or whatever it may be, uses blades (as every other fan before this time, including simple paper fans, which are essentially blades, do), than it is not truly a "blade-less" fan. There are also tall, oval-shaped versions of these fans. If the air comes from the bottom, how on Earth does it circulate evenly to the top, instead of mainly at the bottom. This makes no sense to me, and makes me mad every time I think about it.
