John Lennon's Birthday

On October 9th, 1940, one of the most iconic musicians of all time was born in Liverpool, England. John Lennon, probably the most easily identifiable of The Beatles with his round wire-rimmed glasses, hugely influenced the music of the world. He was also the most controversial of the band, protesting the United States’ involvement in the Vietnam War and once announcing that the Beatles were more popular than Jesus.

The band broke up in 1970 and Lennon went on to a successful post-Beatle career. In all, he was involved with 25 number one singles on the US Hot 100 chart including “Imagine,” one of the most famous songs of all time. He was shot and killed in front of his apartment building on December 8, 1980

His birth on this day was a “good” event because John Lennon was a great musician and an influential songwriter. He helped to change the history of music both with The Beatles and the albums he released in the ten years after their split.
