On This Day...

On this day 8 years ago, Mission: SPACE opened in Disney Worlds EPCOT center. It was a motion simulator created to give participants an idea of what to experience if they were actual astronauts. The significance of this creation extends beyond the breaking of various technological boundaries and into the commemoration of our nations space program. Mission: SPACE is greatly important as it exemplifies the triumphs of the United States in the space race of the 20th century. Mission: SPACE is also the last easily accessible remnant of our shuttle program which ended a few months prior to me writing this. In the hopes that it doesn't close down in the near future, it will serve as a piece of historical evidence for future generations. It will illustrate the great distances our astronauts flew, the forces they experienced, and make the great abyss known as space seem more tangible.
