My recent lament

You know what I think? I think that all churches should fire their nice little old nursery workers and hire 10 year olds instead. I mean, why not? When they are in there every time I walk by, we might as well reward them by giving them the gift of thinking that we appreciate them. I know they really work hard rolling around in there playing with all those neat toys while occasionally almost suffocating a 4 month old because they totally hold babies all the time. Riiiiiiiight. I mean, what the heck, let's just give our poor little nursery ladies a nice paid vacation; the kids will work for free. After all, they are just little angels for taking the horrible task of holding babies all day off the plethora of grandchildren-less women who love a good snuggle now and again. And I know those broke teenagers - the ones where babysitting is their only source of gas money - are just so thankful these little kids are willing to step in and isolate them from additional customers. Now that I think about it, why have we never thought about this before? Entrusting the next generations of our church to kids themselves is beneficial to both parties. While the 10 year olds are missing church every Sunday - when will they ever use peace, love, and joy in their everyday lives anyway - the babies get to learn how to be independent: learning how to deal with the fact that their diaper hasn't been changed all day and learning that you should not be good unless prompted with a cookie reward. Sounds like a symbiotic relationship to me. So I urge you churches, open your doors wide and encourage little girls to come in the nursery - after all, it gets them out of our hair.
