On October 8th, 2001, President George W. Bush announced the establishment of the Office of Homeland Security.
This has a large impact on our nation and on America's national policy and its effect in the world. This office was created due to the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Before this, America had suffered terrorist attacks. However, this attack was on such a scale that it created an entire new federal branch. This office helps domestic peace and protects citizens from foreign and internal affairs. After this was created, many people reviled Bush's policies but it also showed the severity of the issue at hand and the large response. At the world wide level, this was hugely important as well. It was one of the premier steps of Bush's war on terrorism. Once the domestic threat was eliminated sufficiently, Bush then stressed other nations to follow Americas lead and especially pursued countries such as Pakistan to follow our new policies. It didn't directly affect my life, yet the effects of this are probably subliminal and perhaps that is best.
