USSR performs nuclear test at Novaya Zemlya USSR

Ah, nothing like the true start of the cold war. this was incredibly important as for the fact that it began what may be the biggest arms race mankind has ever seen. the cold war was a mental war, as it pushed each of the two countries involved to show off their impressive weaponry to psych out the opposing enemy. Was this good? heck no, of course not. it lead us to not only lose our position as THE most powerful nation in the world, it also caused(and still is causing) fears over whether or not the countries involved have disarmed their nuclear arsenal. the whole world was shaken by this event, and more people now realize that mankind has the power to destroy billions of lives in an instant with two or three of these superweapons. personally, im not sure if i loathe the event or not, juust for the fact that i wasnt there and i dunno why i should be so impacted by it.
